Boro flashback 17th December seen Boro in a 3rd divison football fixture & our 1st double of the season

Colchester United came to Ayresome Park for their 1st ever competative fixture between the two teams
We had previously played 2 away games v Colchester, one in the league cup September 65 & the beginning of the 1966-67 season, both victorious

This was to be our 1st double of the season, after winning 3-2 on the opening day of the season

8,819 fans turned up hoping for a good home win & the start our christmas programme & the Boro certainly felt in the festive spirit, running out 4-0 winners with a brace each from John O'Rourke & Arthur Horsefield

Stan Anderson made a couple of changes from the previous weeks 1-0 win at home to Brighton, with debutant Frank Spraggon making way for Arthur Horsefield
Jim Lawson, wearing the No10 shirt, coming back in to the team after missing 11 games & John Hickton changing positions & swapping the No10 shirt to the No2 shirt
