"Has it never entered your head that the cuts would have had little or no affect had millions not been wasted on white elephants? If you saw a company wasting millions, would you continue to fund it, or give them less to waste? Have you even the remotest idea what's been wasted and what's still being wasted? I'm not ashamed of anything since I made no decisions on spending. What I am happy to tell you is that I did NOT claim a lot of what I was entitled to, as did others including Mr Preston, cllr Hubbard , cllrs John & Chris Hobson ( Tory) once the size of the problem was made public. Only Labour cllrs refused to do that. I have NOT blamed the new administration for the financial hole, I blame all the previous Labour administrations up until 2019. The difference between you and I is that I've seen it happen over years. No spending checks, no receipts asked for etc etc. Mallon found a huge cupboard wall to floor with expensive cigars, spirits, champagne etc for cllrs. You paid for parties in the civic suite, surely you knew that !! Every Christmas cllrs received a Xmas cake, Xmas pud, one bottle of wine, one bottle of spirits and a turkey. You paid for that. I am only one of three cllrs for my area, the other two are Labour."
