Do you "follow" use by dates on food?

I ask because i seem to throw a lot away. Like sandwich fillers. Just too much in 1 pot. Since being on my own i have thought about how a lot of food is "2 people" based.

So do you follow UBD's?

I do the smell test Ken. The UBD is a safety mechanism but usually gives you a lot more time. Eggs and stuff last ages for example.

I ignore Best Before but I'm careful with Use By dates.
