What is it about nightshifts, working outside, down by the river, gale, snow, rain, wind, sunshine you get the lot & you know what, it doesnt bother me one iota as I love my job, have dobe since I started back in 86, but through all that, what does get me feeling so down some nights is the worst part, when you find yourself alone, thinking of the world as it is, full of hate, cruelty, greed, selfishness, the news is horendous, you name it we have it in abundance & yes, it does get to me, thinking of my family to lift my spirits, the Boro, but then my mind just drifts back to the poor, unfortunate families, kids, who have no say in all this evil turmoil & then I get to think of my kids, grandaughter, its so depressing

What a depressing, awful world we have built, will it get better, cant think it will for a long, long while

Could it be down to what kind of social butterfly you are?

If you "like" people then working alone at night i can imagine must get lonely.

You like people Erimus. You love a chat about anything therefore i would consider you very sociable.

Myself? I enjoyed night shifts. Granted i have never been in the O+G game or "dirty hands" work but the nighttime was always a great chance for me to reflect quietly and privately.

Horses for courses mate.

I still do

All the grown ups are asleep and common sense prevails

Plus with the time difference it's usually a better time to communicate with people at home

And you get to sun bathe or go on the lash after shift....

I started working permanent nights about 2 months ago. Ok it's in a warm well lit environment. It's made my life easy. The wifey has the car when I sleep, we have a few hours to do stuff, I like it.

6pm to 4.30am 4 X a week.

Hated working nights, did it for over 3 years.  The job I honestly had nothing to do ever.  Got paid to sit there in case of an emergency.

Quit them when I started having anxiety attacks and my sugar levels would drop.  As my body couldn't get used to the changes in sleeping patterns.

Never again

I do Monday to Friday day working and if someone said can you do nights I'd tell them to fuck off.

It would totally ruin my drinking patterns.

I ran a night shift in a warehouse in Preston back in 1990/91 and we spent most of the night barricading ourselves in and fighting off attacks from lunatic feral bastards trying to break in.
I was removing cast iron rollers from the conveyor to hand out as weapons to the more game lads on the shift. We had lads (and some of the larger lasses) positioned at all points of weakness on the perimeter, it was like fucking Zulu! Police weren't interested. Only solved once I employed a fucking massive black guy called Reynald, he talked to the mob and it calmed down. The day shift boss and I ended up as guests at the Preston Caribbean Club for a big old party.
I'd just about forgotten about those days.

Maybe they were just wanting to use the warehouse as a rave venue and get pilled up.

This is my first 3 nights off. I had been working Overtime.

They are long days, Friday and rain I keep falling asleep.

At least there is sport tomorrow.
