Preston were our visitors to Ayresome Park for a 1st divison fixture

Boro had only won the one home game out of 5 they'd played up to the Preston fixture & that was the opening game of the season

Boro took full advantage of the home game with a fine 4-2 win, goals from Samual Cail, Steve Bloomer & a brace from John Hall, taking their goals to 2, 8 & 2 respectfully

Boro, who were managed by Andy Aitken until the following Feb, went on to finish in 9th place
