When we were hosts to Jarrow in the FAC Qulifying round 1, this was our 1st FAC match as a football league team, unfortunately it wasn't a happy day as Jarrow left Linthorpe road victorious 2-1

Robert Eglington scored our consolation goal & became the 1st Boro player to score on his home debut, away debut & FAC debut

We took revenge the following season beating them 3-0 in the FAC

The history of football is fascinating. I need to read up more on the pre ww2 era. My father in law reckons we were champions in waiting. What's your view @erimus74

Leading up to 1939 season Wilf Gillow had put together a team that could/should have challenged the best
1936/37 we finished 7th
1937/38 we finished 5th
1938/39 we finished 4th
1939 season we played 3 games, we lost away at Villa & Liverpool & drew at home to Stoke, WW2 finished off that era

When you think we had the likes of Mannion 21, Hardwick 19, Fenton 26 & Baxter 28, to blend into a nice team who would improve

Camsell 37 played in one of the 3 games in 39, a bit too old & was to join the backroom staff in 46

Thanks Erimus. Looks like the war stopped us being successful. Imagine if we won some titles in that era? Would certainly shut the deckchairs up if that were the case.
