Still a favourite season of mine. Started badly and then picked up- and how we picked up!

From New Year onwards we slowly clawed our way into the promotion picture.

And what a finale! Arguably the Biggest Boro home attendance for many a year both before and after.

As a nipper I had to thank my late dad for religiously  taking me to all home games. For the Oxford game, picked up from school in Guisborough. 3 of us - including my grandad set off straight to Middlesbrough.

I have never witnessed such a volume of traffic - took ages! To the point my grandad and I got out and walked. Managed to get in the South Stand - and once more never seen queues of that magnitude.

Never saw my dad again that night! He managed to get a ticket unbeknown to us. We had to catch the bus back.

Memories of this night firmly embedded in the memory back.

Happy, happy days

Cheers, Erimus. I think all of us still alive would quote it as a very special night and one remembered.

Legend has it the roar of the crowd when each of the goals went in could be heard in Nunthorpe! I never before and never have after seen hundreds of youngsters sitting on what was called the cinder track pitch side. This was because there were so many squeezed into the ground. Officially 40000 as a exit gate collapsed there were estimates of another 10000 fans getting in!

Amazing night.
