Effectively bankrupt.

A labour ran outfit but straight away OTR have turned it into a Tory bashing exercise

https://fmttmboro.com/index.php?threads/birmingham-city-council-bankrupt.49547/

I'm not a Tory, far from it but the council has allegedly had to pay out over £1b on equal pay matters and a bodged IT system could cost £100m+

How the f*** is that the governments fault, it's absolute purely mismanagement at a local level.

They get the budget from the serving government, whether that is enough is a different matter altogether, they are supposed to manage it.

Think they are the fifth to go....Woking, Thurrock and Croydon, I forget who the 4th was. It was 2 Labour and 2 Tory.

The Boro could well be doing similar soon.

I wouldn't be surprised.

Our council is too busy fighting amongst themselves and on social media to worry about such mundane things as serving the general public of this town.

As said it's both labour and Tory councils. I think this is the reason in addition to sloppy financial control.

He says the funds that go from the national government to local authorities have "been significantly reduced, nearly by half" in the last 10 years, and that councils have had to find "creative solutions".

Half my salary and I would be f'd

We see mismanagement all over. Nearly 2k council tax up here and for what? Bins emptied. Not only that but we have a parish council and they are like the Gestapo.

Cannot get permission to take the wall down and make a drive. 3 times knocked back.

4 holiday lets suddenly have drives though!

We have space for 14 cars outside. There are 27 cars just on my "block".

Bins emptied..I'd keep that quiet or they'll put a stop to it like round here.

I'm not disputing that they have been under funded and as I said that's a seperate discussion/argument, the point is a Labour ran council has spunked over 100m on a crocked IT system and been caught with their pants down on the equal pay scenario to the tune of over a billion.............this needs highlighting as much as the underfunding.

Government grants have increased after having been reduce by 45%.
Council tax has increased and Birmingham paid on 25% of the nearly £200m cost of the Commonwealth Games, we (the taxpayer) picked up the rest of it.

They went ahead with their Pride event in May costing millions.

Socialist council - like Maggie said; the problem with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money!

Spot on TCS. Most problems are caused by bad management whether in industry or local government. They spunk cash on vanity projects and cut down on services then blame government underfunding. More housing being built equals more council tax. The executives get paid more than the PM yet still they moan.

Northallerton_Boro

I think the government want this - Then bring private companies in.

BoroRedKen

Lets be honest.

Woke and virtue signalling.

"Diversity Manager". Pride. Fines for not employing disabled and "minorities".

Go woke go broke.

Its that simple.

BoroRedKen

Previous Labour Govs no responsibility for RAAC.

Labour run councils going bust. But 13 years blah blah.

What is a woman?

Can men really have periods?

Open Borders.

Welcome to the whole UK in 12 months time.

3 months if Labour have their way......

They're not mutually exclusive

I wouldn't trust any council to run an IT system, they are more interested in arguing is it a capital spend or revenue. I audited a few and all of them were shoite.

In With the Lurpak

They are ran by Greedy fucking parasites

The former chief executive of Croydon council, Jo Negrini, received the highest remuneration of any council employee in the country at £613,895. This is despite the council effectively declaring bankruptcy in November 2020.
