Don't know if you've seen this but it is brilliant. Unbelievable back story told really well.

He then retired early to take up photography and to look after his poorly sister. Then he invented the Predator boot. Then he invented an automatic mini bar system for hotel rooms.
Some guy!

Wow, absolutely brilliant

That is fantastic, not seen that before, I listened to a similar story on his muat liaten to podcast, he talks about the kids he played football with, great, unbelievable story of a young lad who fought against everything to become a big name in football but gave it all up to look after his sister

He doesnt mention it, but when he decided to leave Liverpool to care for his sister Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish said to him, when youre ready to come back gave me a call, my door is always open

Many thanks for posting John

I watched a tv programme all about it after he had retired - it was weirdly wonderful how he did it all from sticking some rubber spiked material on 'normal' football boots, and then going for the swerve all monitored on technology. Fascinating stuff. Had he patented it - he would be buckled now - he did it for a slice of profit and a wage at the time if memory serves me right - the predator idea is patented under Adidas now I believe.

I will have a listen to that link later on tonight.

Didnt know that regarding his predator boots patented under Adidas

Mike Peeler

Yes, this is some of it on youtube.

Well worth a watch when you have some free time.

Like them or not (Liverpool), you had to be a bit more than decent to get in the Liverpool sides of back in the day. It worked out for Johnston and, Souness, but not so much for David Hodgson when they all left for the scousers.

He was quick as hell Hodgson but so much prolific and went for long spell not scoring then went on to bang in a hattrick against Spurs at Ayresome. The Boro fans still adored him and always willed him on to score more goals in a Boro shirt.

I had my season ticket in the chicken run back then, along with my dad, we stood on the halfway line. As the ref put the whistle to his mouth for Boro to kickoff to blew to start the game Hodgy was away down the wing, seemed to go to early, never understood how the linesman didnt wave his flag, he seemed to set off before the ball was kicked, he was that fast
