Recall Cloughy, wearing a red tracky top & holding a aquash racket, saying on TV he paid £1 less than a million as he didnt want to be known as buying the 1st £1m footballer

Not sure why, though it stuck anyway

RIP Trevor Francis x

Billy Ashcrofts home debut 10th September 1977 seen Birmingham travel to Ayresome Park for a 1st division fixture, now greed is good PL

Billy opened his account only for wonder kid Trevor Francis to bag a brace & take bith points back to the Midlands

His debut took place a week earlier at WBA, another iconic superstar Cyril Regis made his debut & scired, Boro lost 2-1

Saw him play for Brum against us just after making his debut. Real shock to hear this news. Very talented player.

The first away ground I went to was Birmingham St Andrews in the 75 fa cup tie I was only a nipper but went with the old fella I had family down there so went for the weekend. I remember nothing of it other than it was my first Boro away game played in the FA cup 6th round and we lost 1-0, and it was packed to the rafters. Another Wembley dream at the time that got away.

Bob Hatton got the winner. Not sure if Francis played in that game I might have Google for the answer

RIP Trev

Yes, Man City the year after in the league cup was my heartbreaker only because it was a 'semi-final' but in fairness, the old man was singing we are going to Wembley when we drew Birmingham away. That said he used to sing it after the third-round draw every year.

I was at Brum that afternoon, they were throwing broken, sharp LP's in the Boro end

Trevor Francis: When Nottingham Forest boss Brian Clough made him Britain's first £1m player - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/66292386

Love the way he walked into late to such a high profile interview with his swuash tacket then just brushed the paperwork to oneside, a one off was Cloughy

He still wasnt good enough to be a dance partner to my mum, she danced with his brother Dessie, but when Brian tried to push in, as a Boro player back then, she gave him the cold shoulder 😉
