One lesson I hope that will be learnt from last night

Is that possession doesn't win you football matches. Easy on the eye it may well be but it doesn't mean it is converted into goals. To me, the slowness of passing from side to side, passing back to the keeper from beyond the halfway line is my biggest frustration about our play.

Really, how do we benefit? It offers the opposition the time and space to be set up to repel a lot of attacks. And, as such, perversely, offers the opposition a guiding hand.

When we play at pace we get teams to be uncertain, unnerved and generally more in a place of making mistakes. Three games to illustrate this? Sheffield Utd away, Norwich and Hull at home.

I would willingly sacrifice some possession for more pace, power and a greater intent.

Some will disagree, give me 20% possession and a win any day of the week.

It worked for Coventry, poor football side but effective, they'll finish bottom.

Too many times we were in the final third, to having it back to Steffan. It was so frustrating and showed how much we are needing that player in the middle of the pitch. I hope we get Ramsey and archer back they make a difference. Keep them with a couple of really good additions on top of our best players, then we can challenge for an auto spot

We've knocked 4 or 5 in a few games this season playing like that. We've never scored as many as this season in years. I think we lost momentum when he started resting players. Akpom never scored again after being left out.

Games we have lost have been where we were out muscled

Cov could/should have had at least 1 sent off last night - poor Chuba was battered every time he picked up the ball

Again another poor ref display

I would hazard a guess when we have knocked teams over with ease it is probably more down to pace being employed as opposed to the snail-like build up from the back.

Totally gutted but IMHO, after the Norwich 5-1 win, which secured our playoff place we sort of just limped over the remainder of the season, no urgency from any players there on in, resulting in our performance last night, a shadow of what we have shown since MC arrived, yes we can blame injuries, but so can other teams, including Coventry, we took our foot of the pedal & paid the ultimate price last night, our lack of form going in to the 1st leg game & wasting those chances I knew & feared, would come back & bite us & it did

No way will MC leave, he's brought freshness & hope back to our club, built us up after the awful atmosphere & football our previous manager had left & knows he's still learning himself, fingers crossed he's learnt patient nice, tappy football isnt always the answer & when teams, as Coventry did last night, have a plan to set up against us, then we have to change to get around them, it didnt help that players who have been massive for us this season, Giles crossing, Akpoms goals, Archers industry have been missing of late, but thats football for you

Still love my club & will do forever & a day, next season is another season & the Boro will be back to raise our hopes & right at the death let us down, that's why we love football & thats the way it is with supporting the Boro, I walked home with my son last night, feeling more for him than I did for myself

ONCE THEY BREAK YOUR HEART THEY HAVE YOU FOR LIFE

UTMB ERIMUS  :unbelievable:

The big problem was we have no plan B , 20 mins to go we needed a big lump up the pitch to a big lad up front and hope for a knock down . But hey-ho seen some great football this season so not so disappointed .

Another entry into the Typical Boro file for you Erimus !

For us all Nosmo-king, agree sadly, another typical Boro moment

Nosmo-King

Yep very disappointing Erimus. Lot of uncertainty regarding players for next season. Will no doubt be eventful before next season for sure

tunstall

Was a lot like Wilderball last night

There's no doubt that injuries and knocks and niggles came at the wrong time for us
