We were a young inexperienced team who couldn't keep a clean sheet & were finding it hard to win games, not a very good combination, with two victories to our name since the turn of the year & slipping down the 1st division table when on this day we played Southampton at home, the last team we beat earlier in the season when winning 3-1 at the Dell

It started oh so well when Gary Hamilton smashed a corker to put us one up, we were playing some lovely football. Gary Gill was told to run off a broken leg, we then conceded & then worse, fell behind, only for Bernie Slaven, who else & Mark Burke to bring us a much needed point, we can't buy a win but it's now 3 draws out of our last 4 games

A crowd of 16,983 Ayresome Park were hopeful that the Boro will have enough to survive in the top flight after gaining promotion the previous summer, that team, full of heart, passion & desire to succeed certainly deserved a 2nd season in the top flight

Bruce's team.
