They still wouldn't have realised if one of the 37 released in error (one Amari Ward) hadn't sexually assaulted someone within a few days of getting out.
When he was returned to prison someone noticed that he was supposed to be being held until he's due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court in October.

The instruction - "Release these prisoners"

Prison staff released those prisoners.

Having been through the process, it's not as simple as the screw going to the cell of prisoner number co123 and letting them out the front gate.
I actually know of one person that was nearly released after finishing a sentence only to be found he was serving a consecutive sentence, he obviously kept quiet but was found out whilst release papers were checked.
