Quote from: Ayton Mews on September 20, 2024, 02:02:59 PMHe was on £25k a week when Leeds were in the prem, but their entire squad had relegation clauses which dropped their salary by 50-60%.

So last season at Leeds he was probs on £10-12k a week. If we've matched that salary on a 2 year contract, I'd say he's done well.

His contract was a longer term one, it bears no relation to any deal done with Boro, who were competing with Sheff Utd for his signature. The club will look at the overall cost of a short (2 year contract), I'd be amazed if he wasn't on something in the order of £30k / week

Sorry tez, but absolutely no club in the championship is giving a 33 year old right back a 2 year, £30k a week contract.

Not happening.

A couple of things there.
Firstly you don't know what they're giving him, nor do I, but companies whose job it is to produce these figures suggest that it's £30k per week.

Secondly, his age is a irrelevant, the pertinent issue is the length of contract. We have given Ayling a 2 year deal which suggests that (experts on fitness etc) the club believes he will be able to maintain his level for those two years. That is what would dictate the salary, along with how far we were pushed in signing him by Sheff Utd and the length of the contract.

Do you think that offering a 34 year old, or a 35 year old, a one year contract on similar money is as unlikely?

Bud Wiser

Regardless of the salaries, one of those links states Matt Clarke's contract expires next year. That needs rectifying sharpish!

I think you're being kind to the websites mentioned if you think they're employing people to accurately report those figures. It's some kid on a laptop picking up snippets of old info, and making up the rest.

The £25k a week mentioned is believe to be the contact he was on at Leeds in the premier league. A contract signed when he was in his absolute prime.  This was then reduced by 50-60% to £10-£12k when they were relegated (article in the athletic)

His age isn't irrelevant at all, as it's a massive factor in the length of contract he will get anywhere.

A two year contract for a 33 year old is the perfect scenario, it'll see him through to 35... so in all likelihood the last big contract of his career.

But we are NOT going to be bumping his salary up from £10k a week to £30k a week, definitely not on a 2 year deal.

I doubt we have offered ANYONE a contract of more than £20k a week for about the last 5 years.. since the days of Fletcher and Saville and the rest

Our top earners will be Hackney and McGree who signed new contracts recently
