Bryan 'Taffy' Orritt made history this day, 1965, back then subs were introduced to only to replace an injured player, not tactical

Away to Preston North End our right back (No2) Neville Chapman (No2) was injured during the game & had to be replaced by Brian Orritt to became our 1st ever Boro player to come on as a substitute

IIRC, No2 right back was the only position Brian Orritt never covered, he moved to wing half & Billy Horner reverted to right back

We had to wait another week before history was to be made at Ayresome Park

Jimmy Irvine scored Boro's goal in a game that finished 1-1
