Carillion went bust because it was badly run - bidding on too many risky projects at too low a price. The margins were stupidly low.
The Tories invented it, but Labour went all-in on PFI last time around. Many of those contracts are still live - and public bodies are still wasting billions on facilities management because they're locked into them.
It's like buying your furniture from Bright House.

As it happens as I said I agree with it.

You build a house. You borrow money to build it, you pay interest on it, insure it and over time you refurbish it. And then when the mortgage is paid you own it. The total you pay back on a £125,000 mortgage over 25 years at 5 pc is close to £225,000..

A hospital is the same if you use public money to do it or PFI, apart from the additional margin you give to refurbish and the risk.
