Southgates name is above the door so he will take the brunt/glory no matter if we perform good, bad or indifferent but in reality we have largly performed in games as we have always done since I was a nipper, the difference been this time we got our share of the luck throughout the tournament, as opposed to in the past it went against us

By all accounts & I didnt watch it, we were poor v Serbia, poor v the Swiss, the Denmark game I watched, we were lucky to get a draw & even more lucky the group game results went for us meaning we had a much easier group, which again, we flattered to deceive, average at best Bellingham with an overhead kick to rescue us from another embarrassing, dismmal performance

Our issue over the years is not down to managers but players, we've gone down the route of Englands best, europes best with the end result has always been the same

They said - We have such a talented group we cant fail to be one of the teams challenging for the final they kept saying, a golden generation of footballers 😂

They said - These players are the cream of the crop 😂

File Bellingham, Foden, Saka, under Gerrard, Beckham, Schools, Mcmannaman, Lampard, Barnes, Brooking
File Rice, Stones, under Butcher, Terry etc, file Walker under Pearce. TBH, I ckuld have namsd a dozen more players & another dozen more

Then we have Linekar, Shearer, Kane all scoring goals giving us renewed hope that we'll do better this time, but as per, we go out, yet the list of players who'll be different this time goes on & on

Fans & the media build up these players to such heights that, although they perform excellent for their respective clubs, they're just bang average for their country

No doubt when the upcoming football season kicks off we'll have the boring international breaks to come, with England winning inferior games & again, easily qualify for world cups, euros then the usual outcome of rinse & repeat

Did we actually blow any team away during the tournament as we seem to do in the group stages!
Are we really better than Denmark, Switzerland, Netherlands etc, when we're honest & tell ourselves we are as only as good as those teams mentioned then we can move forward & then hopefully challenge the likes of Germany, Spain, France

Until then, we'll continue to falter & continue to blow smoke up average international players backsides tournament after tournament

Reading on other SM sites & forums we now have a golden generation & to be proud of what we achieved this summer

That in a nutshell is England fans, how many golden generations, have we had, how many world class players(?) have we had

We'll continue to flatter to deceive

Hi Erimus,

You mentioned before that you don't like international football, something that I find strange because after watching England win the World Cup was how I got to start watching the Boro.

I've enjoyed this tournament and feel for once the best team in the tournament won it with the two fancied teams (England & France) not performing to their potential.

I have just been chatting with a Belgium guy who praised England but like me, he thought the Spaniards performance against Germany, France and England made them deserving winners.

Regarding Liddle's comment of England being ripped a new one, I just don't see it and feel too many are willing to knock this bunch of incredible players. We just need to work out how to get the best out of them.

Well done England.

John Trebor

I think Southgate did actually work out how to get the best out of them but didn't implement it until late in games.

Morning Norman,

Hope your holiday is going well

I'm just not into international football, not been for many years
I was hoping they would win, more so for the likes of my son who was supporting them from Croatia where he's on a holiday with his GF, sending me a photo of a group of them wearing England tops, he was buzzing

I didnt celebrate when we equalised, its just the way I am with international football, as soon as the game was over the TV was switched over & the game gone

Forgot to add, another average England performer in Declan Rice as the modern day reliant robin version of Terry Fenwick

Yep, another 2 years before our expectations are crushed again, been a bit of a weird tournament this, with our boring start, letting Kane tag along and not actually trying to score until we were a goal down.
Many teams will be as baffled as us as to how we managed to get to the final.

Too Much Perspective

Spain were pinging it about, pressing and dominating like prime Barcelona.
We're supposed to have one of the best leagues in the world, top players, and spend most of the tournament playing like a mid table champ side. Always the same. Get Klopp in - worth a try at least.

Agree, people have mentioned been proud & thats their opinion but mine is of a team that stumbled to the final, got through each game without dominating teams who were ranked 50, 60 places below us & luckily finding ourselves in an inferior group, courtesy of massive slice of lady luck, we reached the final

Another reason I have little or no time for England when we have petulant, cheats like Bellingham

Only 21 and he's already achieved so much!

He's gonna be one hell of a player for England!

He could be, thats says it all, John Barnes could, have been to name but one, plenty of caps but many, many inept performances

England over many years is littered with allegedly great players who could have done it for their country

I was fed up reading comments going into the euros on how good Bellingham is & how good he'll be in the tournament, I can only say it as I see it & to me he's average to ok, nothing more.
Certainly didnt see any brilliance you spoke of

He reminds me more of Mick Buckley, honestly Newy he could become a great player for England, no doubt he is for RM but he has to improve 90% over a few seasons consistently to be regarded near as good as BR
