Steve Harley has died.He was a great musician and I was lucky enough to see him solo and with Cockney Rebel 8 times.Listen to him singing Last Time I saw Your Face ,it's a very underrated classic.RIP Stephen Nice .

Blott

I worked with his brother Nigel Nice. I met Steve once, when he picked his brother up.

From the couple of minutes I chatted to him, about anything but music, he came across as a really decent bloke.

RIP

I can vouch for Smoggers love of the group. The music i was brought up on.

I do a mean Steve Harley impression!

I find myself enjoying this music more as i get older. Good melodies and lyrics that are still apt in the modern era.
Not all gangsta and drill bollocks.

RIP.

2 songs that have always stuck in my head from childhood.

The 2nd 1 is personal to Smoggers so i wont post it out of respect for B.

Actually there are a lot to pick from! Mainly Quo, Queen, Dire Straits, Motorhead.

Cant really recall my late brothers musical taste. I remember flares and hooooojjjj collars on shirts.

And no. Despite what Smoggers might say our mum did not make me wear a purple velvet jacket as a kid!!

What's your go to Steve Harley song on Kareoke?

Gutted I missed his last gig in Yarm.. I've seen him there before but didn't even see the listing this time.

Went to see him in London with my wife and we were talking between ourselves how Bowie had managed to stay popular and keep up with current trend.. and Steve just went down the Burtons Menswear route. Did some canny solo stuff without any sort of stylist or big record company push or even a decent graphic designer. Turns out his wife was sat just in front of us.. took me AGES to click even after she said that she's went to all of his gigs. He released a triple album compilation with him in a cool get up on the cover..

So many great songs and I don't think he got the recognition that he deserved.

The standard bearer. Come Up And Make Me Smile.

We have a gigging singer on here. Smashes these kind of tunes out of the park. As for the Rag and Bone man stuff.... Blow ya little cotton socks off mate.

Bowie stayed popular by plagiarising what ever someone else had come up with.Had some good tunes though.

I saw a documentary recently about where he started and all his mime stuff and how he nicked his vocal style off Anthony Newley

Still mint tho

David Bowie = Newley Doing?

BoroRedKen

You learn summat new everyday!

"Newley was an early influence on the rock musician David Bowie, who was a fan of his. The producer of Bowie's first album, Mike Vernon, even described his first impression of Bowie as "a young Anthony Newley".[39] Rolling Stone noted that Bowie's singing on the album was "delivered in an overenunciating voice that was deeply indebted to popular English actor-singer Anthony Newley."

BoroRedKen

Personally not a Bowie fan.

Love his knives though..

BoroRedKen

Im lying a bit.

Ashes 2 Ashes is a quality song.

BoroRedKen

Hmmm. Think im actually discovering i enjoy "story albums".

A Grand Dont Come For Free by The Streets a point in case!
