Some nice bits of footage & memorabilia on the news, heard of the radio station growing up but cant remember if I listened to it or not, I know my older sisters, 4 years older than me did

On another note can posters remember radio Luxembourg, now I do remember listening to that station

Erimus ,I listened to Radio Caroline a lot in my younger days,in fact I found at at a car boot sale a set of CDs called Radio Caroline Calling 70's flashback tracks. The booklet with it said that the Original MV Caroline was scrapped and Radio Caroline then transmitted on a ship called Mi Amigo. One of the DJs Bob Noakes wrote a book called The Last of the Pirates about his time on Radio Caroline. Its a very funny book and worth reading. Ps I listened to Luxembourg as well which was I thought more pop orientated than Caroline.

Is 270 the station that broadcast out of Scarborough waters? If so, my late mum used to love listening to a young Paul Burnett - " this is yours sincerely, Paul Burnett". Cheesy I know - but she loved it.

He like a lot of the pirate DJ's went on to National radio - him predominantly with Radio One

Obviously too young to remember the pirate stations but have always been fascinated by their concept, watching any documentary on them - even loving the spoof movie The Boat That Rocked!

Around 17/18 years ago Big L (The former Radio London) started re-broadcasting (legally) on 1395AM. Loved it. Sadly, it only stayed around for a couple of years before closing. Ironically, just a few weeks AFTER I'd shelled out for a good quality Eton radio with excellent AM reception! I guess the general public had largely fallen out of love with medium wave radio by then. Unbelieveably, it even drew criticism for having a playlist of more than 20,000 songs. What the fuck's wrong with that? After all we don't all want to listen to the likes of Smooth playing Dolly & Kenny singing Islands In The Stream every waking hour!

Thankfully, due to DAB radio choice doesn't have to be so repetetive, with Boom having the broadest playlist by far - even if it does play a bit too much from the 60s for my liking.

Give it a try: https://www.boomradiouk.com/

I am pretty sure that Smooth has less than 20 songs.
