Middlesbrough FC played their 1st ever football match, just over one year to the day since they were formed (18/2/1876)

Our opponents were a local rugby union team called Tees Wanderers, the game was played at the archery ground, at Albert Park.

Boro team that historic day:
GK. Harvey (captain)
Backs. Windorss & Hardisty
Half Backs. Booth & Parkin.
Forwards. Jackson Ewbank, Frank Lees, Greenwood, Jenkins, Harrison, Hildreth.

The match finished 1-1 with Jackson Ewbank becoming Boro's 1st official goalscorer

Taken out a brilliant book about the history of Middlesbrough,my son bought me, about the town, with a few pages on local sport & the Boro

The write up at the foot of the photo says 23/2/1878, which is intriguing as its the same opponents, score & scorer as the match I keep referring to on the 1/3/1877
