Our disagreement on Punk. As I say I think it was pretentious nonsense thought up by Westwood and McLaren ( not our ex Manager ). As you know I used to go to the Arena, following up from last night, and no I did not see The Sex Pistols. Like most I was pissed up and could have been listening to anyone.

However I digress, I think you were right about something and I was wrong. I read recently that said, and one or two others, the Ramones came after The Sex Pistols. If that's the case The Sex Pistols did really start Punk, and of course before Sid turned up. By all accounts he was a bit of a baby with zero musical talent, Jonny thought he looked good and backed him all the way.

So I will give you a 1 -0 win.

It's not a point scoring competition Sir.

The new York dolls were around before the pistols too.

Plus the damned's new rose is classed as the first uk released punk single.

GET WELL SOON STEVE G

Ollyboro

The Stooges and MC5 were both important proto-punks. Beatles fans will tell you that Helter Skelter is early punk, but then again Beatles fans reckon The Beatles invented everything ever.

AtomicDog

Seen the Stooges and MC5

I think you are tight The Ramones came first, but not as Punk. Rotton thought they were long haired copyists.

Like I said to me most Punk was cross, it's only since Amazon Music have I taken any notice of the songs. In the Arena, OK Rock Garden they could have repeated the word Banana and no one would have noticed. It was beer in and who gives a F.

I didn't realise most of the early punk bands knew each other and known as,I think, Bromley set.

AtomicDog

Bromley contingent Billy Idol, Siouxsie, Steve Severin

possibly. But Westwood and Rotton started the clothes trend, and to be fair to Rotton most of it he did on his own.

In hindsight the music was progressive but who listened to the lyrics at the Arena?
