I know some of you have a downer on the RNLI but spare a thought for 8 brave lads that lost their lives trying to rescue a ships crew , this day in 1981. Heroes one and all.
UTMB!!!

It's the ones who rescue migrants they are taking the flack for government policies over migrants proper rescue like the one were men lost lives trying to do a job as you mentioned above people will support the government has hung them out to dry

RIP. Brave people.

Simple question though.

How come no swimmers or holiday makers ever "appear" not to get into trouble in certain waters lately.

When was the last time Dover RNLI ACTUALLY rescued a holiday maker in bother on a lilo?

What did Dover RNLI actually do before the small boat crisis?

Because it "appears" its only migrants that get into trouble "at sea" nowadays.

End of the day, they are doing their job.

The issue is not them in or on the water, its being able to do it in the first place and then once on land able to do what they like.

Note - i am on about the hundreds of rapists, criminals etc that are now on our shores

BoroRedKen

Yes i see your point.

Im not detracting from their intent or saying its a job i could do not by any stretch. (i know a fella that served on the Redcar boat for years and he is a top bloke).

My "issue" is they work under a remit that was made 100's years ago, Maritime Law, and i dont believe the current Maritime Law framework is fit for todays needs.

Not just about small boats either. The whole stuff of Maritime Law needs dragging into the 21st century.

And i dont think it can be denied that just sometimes the RNLI do hide behind Maritime Law.

BoroRedKen

In fact i know 2 blokes.

Paul Waugh up here. Served on the Redcar boat for donkeys.

BoroRedKen

Donkeys years!

Cant recall them ever having to rescue Neddy The Donkey from the rocks off Redcar.

"Rocks Off Redcar".

1 concert i would love to attend!

Also a cracking name for a band.

As long as they are from Redcar.

Loads better than having to call a band "Hartlepool Headlanders"......
