This day back in time following the Boro
23/10/71 – John Craggs  & IMHO, the best right back in my time following the Boro, scored his 1st Boro goal at home to Watford on this day 1971 in a 2-1 win, Joe Laidlaw getting the 2nd.
Attendance: 19, 947.
Boro team:- Jim Platt playing his 6th game for the Boro conceding one goal & yet to be on the losing side, John Craggs 11th game for the Boro, Gordon Jones, Alex Smith only to feature in one more Boro game, Stuey Boam, Bill Gates, Joe Laidlaw, Eric McMordie, Willie Maddren started the season as No2 but reverted to CF, which was not of his choice, John Hickton ever present, Jonny Vincent ever present.

23/10/73 - This day back in 73 Souness was sent off for the 1st time in his Boro career away to Carlisle, Boro scored 1st through Alan Foggon after 3 minutes but with Souness getting sent off in the 1st half it was backs against the walls for the remainder of the game, a coldish night match at Carlisle seen us hang on until the 80th minute.
I remember coming home from school as a 13 year old & my dad saying to me & our Kev, we're going to the Boro game after tea, he later had a shave before we set off, even breaking the mirror & saying well that's 7 years bad luck, the things you remember hey.
Boro team:- Jim Platt, John Craggs, Frank Spraggon, Graeme Souness, Stuey Boam, Willie Maddren, Bobby Murdoch, David Mills, John Hickton, Alan Foggon & the ever present Davey Armstrong

23/10/76 - A David Mills goal at home to WBA was enough to send Boro bak to the top of the 1st division, the Boro battered WBA that afternoon but had to rely on a single goal, we were desperate for a goalscorer back then.
Boro team:- Jim Platt, John Craggs, Terry Cooper, Graeme Souness, Stewy Boam, Willie Maddren, Tony McAndrew, David Mills, Peter Brine, Phil Boersma, David Armstrong, sub, Alan Willey
Attendance: 22,643
