Bryan 'Taffy' Orritt made history this day 1965

On the 11th September Boro were away at Preston when Brian Orritt became the 1st ever Boro player to come on as a substitute when he replaced right back (No2) Neville Chapman

Ironically, No2 right back was the only position Brian Orritt never covered, as he moved to WH & Billy Horner moved to RB

Boro drew 1-1

We had to wait another week before history was to be made at Ayresome Park

When subs were 1st introduced it was only to replace an injured player, not tactical

As a schoolboy, I was once scouted by Nev Chapman and had trials with MFC at Hutton Road back in the day, Stayed for about 18 months before getting binned as not good enough. :rav:

A Peeler snippet for all you budding detectives out there. :rudi2:

Getting that far was an achievement in itself!

Indeed my only real claim to fame trained Thursday nights with him and Frank Spraggon. You feel confident and good enough until the holiday season, and then they bring in lads from all over the country, and then the levels do go up. That's when you think hmmm I'm not as good as I thought I was. Not trying to sound big headed.

You're not big headed at all, love reading stories like yours, better than I could have hoped to be

Another stat, Frank Spraggon was our 1st FAC sub 👍
