Away to Sunderland, our 26th away league cup game since the league cup was formed

Boro coming away with a 2-2 draw & an outfield player taking over from Jim Platt, who had bad collision, resulting in a massive shinner

Peter Brine went in goal for the 2nd half

Peter Brine doned the green jersey & keepers gloves with Mr Middlesbrough, John Hickton taking Peter Brines place

David Armstrong who scored two only 3 days earlier at home to Newcastle bagged another brace, his 38th of his Boro career to date & his 4th league cup goals, including a penalty, the clubs 4th league cup penalty
