Fresh from our excellent 3-1 away win at Spurs on the opening day of the season only 3 days earlier we played hosts to future Boro manager Malcolm Allisons Man City on a warm tuesday evening, whose team with expensive new imports were expected to do well that season, well not this night they didnt, as the mighty Boro blitz City from kick off till full time, with goals from Craig Johnston, Micky Burns & Stan Cummins, the Boro ran out comfortable winners with a  3-0 scoreline

After the game big Mal was full of praise for the Boro, he knew his team had been battered throughout the entire 90 minutes

John Neal was building an exciting, fast team team, full of energy, young hungry talented footballers, the future looked good, as long as someone above didnt want to cash in with the clubs crown jewels

Even after 44 years, it was one of the most complete if not THE most complete performance I have ever witnessed. We were sensational that night - and marked the day when our new guard of up & coming youngsters came of age, with the likes of Hodgson, Johnston & Proctor stealing the show.

Still to this day my favourite MFC watching era.
