Title: Norwich City v Boro match thread
Post by: erimus74 on October 22, 2023, 04:16:59 PM
Buzzing Boro

How quick are these games coming round, another championship fixture following our excellent performance & 3 points against Birmingham on Saturday

A performance that was as good as any game I seen last season, we battered them from kickoff
6 consecutive wins, in all competitions on the bounce, 3 cleansheets to boot, a few on red roar told us nervous bunch to calm down, everything will come good & dear me, how right they were & how good is it at the moment

Missing McGree, O'Brien & Lenihen we seem to have just carried on, Smith who could be another long term absentee hobbled off injured with Forss coming on & still no let up in the assault on Birmingham's goal

Last season we fell a goal behind at Norwich only to come back with two excellent goals from McGree & man of the moment, Crooks, to bring 3 points back to Teesside, would we bet against the Boro achieving 7 consecutive wins on the bounce, still a few games short of my favourite season mind

So glad Rogers got off the mark at the weekend, he assisted a goal for Jones when he came on v Sunderland & scored yesterday, both goals winning the ball & bursting through, would/should/could he start v Norwich!

I would say same 11 again as the previous 2 games but with Smith doubtful, hopefully short term, will Carrick bringin VDB or Dijksteel for a 1st start of the season
Norwich have some pacy players mind, when they get the ball that is, so whatever Carrick & :Woodgate go with it'll be the right formation
Also does Howson, now fit, start, Balasar has done nothing wrong since coming in to the team & his psssing is vital when pushing teams back

Two big decisions for our management

On our recruitment department, it look as though they've done very good business as we stand

4th March 1961 - 1st away fixture between these two teams Norwich City 4 Boro 1
Won - 8
Drew - 9
Lost - 13
Goals scored - 33
Goals against - 43

Away hat tricks v Norwich City
9/12/1961 Alan Peacock was the 33rd different Boro hat trick goalscorer when he scored his 4th & penultimate Boro hat trick & the clubs 21st away hat trick, 97th in total, Boro lost 5-4

Away debuts v Norwich
29/12/1962 - William Povey  away won 4-3
15/09/2018 - George Saville away lost 1-0 - 89th loaned player - Loaned from Millwall & after 16 games & 2 goals signed permanently - 56th at the Riverside
30/01/2021 - Yannick Bolasie away drew 0-0 - 99th loaned player - Loaned from Everton - 66th at the Riverside
30/01/2021 - Darnel Fischer away drew 0-0

No away penalties v Norwich

Leroy Lita

Kei Kamara - My younger late brother sponsored his away games
Yanic Wildschut
Chris Killen
Rio Ferdinhand had trials at both Boro & Norwich as a youngster

Lets not mention the 4-4 draw after been 4-1 up when Bernie threw his earphones in the bin & stormed out of the pressbox when co-commentating with the legendary Ali Brownlee

Well done Erimus.

Here's hoping for a Gibson OG, a good header into the corner.

Still bitter with Norwich over that play off final!!

They are hard to predict but our run will come to an end at somepoint. I think 2-2

Didn't look good for Smithy at the weekend

Still been impressed with the way Josh leads the line and hassles defenders

He gets in the right areas and the goals will come eventually I'm sure

It's good we can now trust more or the squad to allow for rotation

1-1 . Coburn? Need more than muscle/ work rate if your included in the team as the main striker- goals.

Not and won't ever be prolific enough.

Great post Erimus.

I'd like to think the 'nailed-on' starters from now would be Dieng, Fry, McNair, Engel, Hackney, Crooks, Jones and McGree (if available).

8 out of 11 not bad for a settled line-up :bigjack

My first away match in 77, same week Elvis died.

Often a tough place to get a result but we've done alright in recent years.

Same result 1:1 but not the same scorer.

I get what you're saying on Coburn - I just think with it being away  he will get another crack at it so as not to dent his confidence - he has had a fair crack at the whip so can not complain if he gets benched.

He gets another chance for me and then Latte Lath will start Saturday as well as coming off the bench tonight.

He missed some big chances on Saturday Coburn - and, has 1 in 10 a think which is not good finishing for a striker. He just might not be ready yet.

I'm sort of on the same page - I'm more it's Leicester City and than the rest of us. After Chrimbo is when I go a bit firmer on who might be up for the top six.

Not just pass of the match, but pass of the season, Jones to Engle, superb

I  think if we get in front we'll win quite comfortably

Gibson is really low on confidence, the crowd are on to him straight away Carrick will get Crooks & Greenwood to target him in the 2nd half

Happy with that performance

Their crowd is waiting for a chance to turn

Yes, he is starting to look like a solid and decent buy. I feared we had a right dud on our hands early on.
