2 form teams going head to head this Saturday morning
Boro are in a much better place after a run of 5 games unbeaten, winning the last 4 & jumping from 24 to 16th, including our 1st league cleansheet of the season, moggas team who are in 4th place in the championship, mouth watering north east derby at the SOL
We have improved so much since that 1st half shocker away to Sheff Weds, with Boro rooted at the foot of the Championship we now look at this fixture with a possibility of getting something from, as opposed to just going there with hope of not getting battered
Though for me, my biggest concern with them is Mogga, his teams usually come out on top of these games against us
Mogga will have them fired up from kickoff, in our faces, we need to play our normal game, keep possession, knock the ball around, slow the tempo right down, quieten the crowd, don't let them get into their stride, remove their threats on the wings & we're a good way to winning the game, easier said that done I know
If we can keep it tight we have pace to come on with Latte late
Jones is so important to us as is Greenwood who is starting to impose himself, he had a cracking game against Cardiff & playing against his home team he can thrive in the atmosphere
Howson, or Balasar, maybe too soon for Howson with been ill midweek, Balasar to keep him place for me
Engle against their speedy wingbacks, he had a great game Tuesday night, but away from home, big test for him could se Bagura come in there, but Carrick may see Engle as the right player after midweek, hopefully he has the confidence now knowing he can peform at this level
For me the team that started midweek should be the team that starts on Saturday
We've plated Sunderland in the PL, 1st division, 2nd division, FAC, league cup, Anglo Scottish Cup & Texaco cup

Alf Common - In February 1905, he broke the transfer record again by moving to Middlesbrough for £1,000, becoming the World's first £1000 Footballer. The Boro had purchased Common in an attempt to avoid relegation to the Second Division. His first game for Middlesbrough was on 25 February 1905, away to his former club Sheffield United. Boro won 1–0, with Common scoring from a penalty after 50 minutes, it was their first away win for nearly two years. Consequently, the team, who had so far been battling against relegation that season, survived the drop. He played 168 league games for Boro and scored 58 goals.
David Hodgson - Played for the Boro between 1978 -1982 - 125 games, scoring 16 goals then returning to the Boro in 1987 on loan for 2 games, it should have been more but Hodgy was sent off in his 2nd game at AP & never played again. In between he played for Sunderland between 1984 - 86 - 40 games & scored 5 goals.
Mark Proctor - Played for the Boro between 1978 -1981 - 109 games, scoring 12 goals then returning to the Boro in 1989 -1993 - 120 games, 6 goals. In between he played for Sunderland between 1983 - 87 - 117 games & scored 20 goals.
Stan Cummins - He played for Boro between 1975 -79 - 44 games, 9 goals. In January 1978 Boro beat Newcastle 4–2 at St. James Park & Cummins scored Boro's fourth goal prompting match commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme to say another of his famous one liners. Immediately after the goal Wolstenholme said "That gives him (Cummins) ten out of ten & one for neatness".In December '78 Boro beat Chelsea 7-2 at Ayresome Park & Cummins had four assists. He joined Sunderland in November 1979 at the age of 20, for £300,000, the Club's most expensive signing in their 100-year history. Agree Mogga teams always seem to come out on top against us 0-2 Bluderland hope I'm wrong
Great thread Erimus as usual
Excellent write up Erimus on the Boro v Sunderland game and nice to see the little photo of young Bradley.
I can see this one going maybe end to end a fair bit, especially if a first goal goes in for either side.
My prediction is the first goal might not be the winning goal but the team that scores it will win the game for me. 3-2 scoreline just not sure who to, apart from hoping it is a Boro win.
It should be a cracker.
Early start tomorrow. Coach managed to avoid the police escort last season, but not tomorrow 😞. Will be using my card for a few before so they don't raid my pockets again at the turnstiles.
MACKEM SCUM 1 BORO LIONS 🦁 2
COBURN
GREENWOOD
💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
The loss of O'Brien till in to the new year is a massive blow, but good news on other playets in VDB, Dijksteel, Bangura all back in contention, that has lifted the mood in the club, Howson, for me bench at best
But one for me, as mentioned in theopening MDT is Greenwood, he could be a big player for us if he can build on his Cardiff game, though Michael Carrick might revert back to Crooks for this one, Jones does seem to benefit more with Crooks feeding him, helping him
Lenihan another absentee due to illness shouldnt walk back in the team, McNair had a really good, steady game & IMHO, when hes been left out & came in hes done well
Smith done well also
One thing I've noticed is the lack of posys on Dieng, this time last season thete were threads eveyday on Steffen, not just on here with fans divided between him, he didnt really win over all the fans, on the otherhand Dieng has been excellent, probably our best summer recruitment & worthy of been our No1 & for me a better all round keeper than Steffen, who I thought was decent enough
2-2
IF WE CAN KEEP CLARKE AND BELLINGHAM QUIET WE CAN WIN THIS... PRITCHARD OUT AGAIN WHO HAS BEEN BOSSING THEIR MIDFIELD 👍 THAT BA LOOKS A DANGER TOO 🙄
(https://i.ibb.co/4NTtcJt/FB-IMG-1696666958751.jpg) (https://ibb.co/f0pFbQF)
I will be punting 3-2 on Boro but could see them also winning by a similar scoreline - the first goal as I touched on yesterday is fairly critical, I would say in this one.
I will wait for the sides before deciding on who my poke is going on.
Still
0-6
🐾
Dreading it. 0-3.
Bastards.
NOT TOO HAPPY WITH THAT TEAM LIKE... FRY CAPTAIN 🤔🙄🙄🙄

Have we ever won an away game against any of Moggas teams?

What happened to McGree, ubaware of him missing until now, gutted
Injured apparently

Yea, there was nothing in the build up
SMITH IN FOR RVB.. INJURED IN THE WARM UP.. MCGREE GOT FOOT INJURY 🙄
C'mon Boro! ❤️
Crooks needs to engage his brain here
Great save, Dieng
On the ropes here like
GREAT SAVE DIENG 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
FUCK ME HOW DID COBURN NOT SCORE 🙄
Happy with us, sometimes we play a ball too short but other than that well done Boro & Carrick
If we could iron out those silly short balls we'll do ok this season
Class back tracking from Jones
How was that a yellow for Jones. Got the ball
Quote from: Francks left peg on October 07, 2023, 01:03:42 PMHow was that a yellow for Jones. Got the ball
AND GREENWOOD BOOKED FOR DISSENT OVER IT 😡😡😡
AT LAST A DECENT KEEPER 💪💪💪
Harsh red
Excellent red. Stfu Mackem gobshite.
Ballard not so clever at taking it. Should have been booked for the foul on our best keeper in a long time.
Fannying about too much at the back.
Jones a better defender than Engel. We should not be allowing them to run at us all the way into box. Engel is the worst defender to let Roberts in but others at too.
Barlaser poor again. Too static and easy to tackle, too lightweight and ball carrying not great.
We've done ok. Badly missing McRee and O'Brien. They are not all that. Fairly even so far. Their forwards are quick but skoolboy headless chickens.
Quote from: Francks left peg on October 07, 2023, 01:22:07 PMHarsh red
Not harsh at all, on a yellow keep stum, the players an idiot
Thought Coburn got away with that elbow at the end which resulted in a bit of dustuo, maybe over spilling from the sending off
Happy with our performance mind
Clarkes a good player but cheatscat times, goes down too easy looking at the ref,
Coburn doesn't do it for me. Clumsy lacks ball control and appears rather awkward.
Some will disagree each to their own
FUCK ME HOW DID CROOKS NOT SCORE THERE 😡😡😡
Gooooooooaaaaaaaaaalllllllll
GREENWOOD 💪💪💪💪💪
Gooooooooaaaaaaaaaalllllllll
MATTY CROOKS 💪💪💪💪💪
Hackney won the ball in mf
Great play and cutback by Jones
Glad my 0-2 to Bluderland has been proven wrong
Yes yes yes
Jones, Crooks great pairing
JONES MAN OF THE MATCH 💪💪💪
Crooks going off, not for me, hes had an excellent game
Can Latte Lath explout the gaps behind Sunderland defence

Well, we've well & truly put that away winless league games to Mogga to bed 😂👍
They beniffited last season when Fry was wrongly sent off & given a penalty that shouldnt have been given, yet they'll moan about a player who got himself sent off, nothing unlucky about it & ee are good at picking holes in teams weaknesses
Great result didn't expect that we usually loose to Mogga's side's but not today broke the hoodoo
Big shout to Dieng, making a couple of big important saves, class keeper
GD from minus 10 down to minus 1 & TBH we should have scored a couple more, but thats been gready, I'll settle for 4-0
Never in my wildest dreams did I see that at HT
We were so professional throughout the game
2 cleansheets on the bounce

Thought our game management was brilliant, just kept our cool and waited for the chances to come 👌🏼 totally and completely dismantled them after we got the first which doesn't always happen against ten men. I think their heads just dropped after they went down to ten men and our experience showed against a side with a lot of young players in it - hope they drop like a stone now 😁 cheers Mogga 👍🏻

Congrats 🎉 on the predictions.
Those post codes need work mind.
Losing VDB in the warm up, didnt upset us, Crooks in for McGree, Crooks played that well, especially with Jones that McGree wasnt missed
I do like Latte Lath, hes fast & a thorn to opposing defences
Happy for Forss with the goal
Rogets done well when he came on, granted its easy coming on when your teams flying but he won the ball & set up Jones for his goal

Agree.
Kudos to Carrick he calmly believes in the players and they believe in him and "the process". Chapeau.
Mogga looks like he lives in that oap home round the corner from him. Blaming the ref was piss poor when you should be teaching your cheating, scrawny youth to zip it 🤫.
Jack Clarke found out. Used to buying free kicks the ex Dirties bellend. Whinged all game like far too many of them. Has talent but he and they are not all that. Experience counts.

Seen some comments their board, theyre saying the ref won us the game
Well if thats the case they should look at their own players, Roberts just runs down blind alleys, Clarke looks for fouls, no leaders throughout the team, which other managers will have noticed
Karma for last sesson for me, or was that different

They dont seem to regard it as a derby, yet they constanly sing we hate Boro, unless they they sing that to every team they play, no they say it just to sound cool, maybe they wont admit it because for 60 years they've been mostly inferior to us & that hammering will hurt them big style, no matter how they dress it up
4-0 😂

5 points off top 6 & 6 points from 3rd bottom, what a transformation Carrick has done
Carrick post match nice and understated. The score speaks for itself. Biggest away win there.
Have some of that you pity pony mongs.
Can't wait to get to work on Monday morning for once 😁

When they kick off about the ref just ask em how was it different to last season when Fry got sent off & they were awarded a penalty, both wrong decisions

You do realise that I don't type these things?
I'm far too busy concentrating on My next windfall. Besides when you've amassed a portfolio like mine suppose it's easy to do.
But fear not José and his family are being evicted from My Mayfair des res.
On the account of your traveling knowledge and facetiousness of course.
I've got the Winston family taking care of that property tomorrow.
I shall send My valet along to the soup kitchen where they'll be dining tonight, family of 6 might I ad.
It is nice to know that there's still observant people in this world. May I suggest FMTTM for you with your aperitif Sir?
You'd certainly be welcomed with open arms on there.
Maybe this place is a bit beneath you . . . Tarquin of Whinney Banks?
Now I must go as I've got a big game of Kalooki organised for this evening Sir.
My guests are turning up as we speak.
I've already got James Taylor, joe Walsh, David Soul, Brian Harvey, That 'fit' one out of The Corrs (The drummer?) Andy Summers, Jackie Chan and Linda Evans (She's rather drunk, hope she doesn't damp down on My
Chaise longue). We're still waiting on a few.
John Cale has txt, said he's stuck in traffic.
Any chance you can pinpoint where Sir?

That's called an all day breakfast in Brockley SE4,
Would I be wide of the mark there Tom Tom?
Tony Mowbray is a red.... he hates Mackems.
Think he was really struggling not to wave
Tony Mowbray is a Boro legend.
Always will be in My eyes.
Of all the great players we've had after his time.
He's not even My favourite player.
No one after him had a ❤️ like Him for our club, on the pitch. Let's not have it wrong he was shit when he broke into the team.
Absolute Boro legend, even though he's from Redcar.
Don't make em like they use to.
Harry Vegas told Me that.

Fantastic win today - oh how the Mackems are good losers! Glancing at their forum is a source of amusement- of course it's the refs fault, their support is top class, couldn't hear Boro fans, Watford fans louder, Mowbray to blame etc etc.
They come across as bitter twisted pre shaving lot.
YOU GOT THRASHED- DEAL WITH IT
UTB
The place was silent once it kicked off, like a rugby crowd
Todays result typifies the inconsistent beauty of the Championship. Our dodgy defence has been without its best three players (this season) over the last two games yet manages to stop the goal conceding rot - not to mention putting four past the 2nd best defence in the division!
I'm still not convinced with the formation Carrick sets up, but will be more than happy to keep eating my words with continuing performances like this.
Quote from: tunstall on October 07, 2023, 10:27:21 PMThe place was silent once it kicked off, like a rugby crowd
All the flags & banners pre kickoff then once the game started all you could hear were the few thousand Boro fans high up in the stands
Sunderland fans really are a fickle lot who, forsome unknown reason, think that they are head & shoulders more successful club over us
To bitter to realise, or admit, that, before the sending off we had quietened the home crowd & with the 2nd half to come I was confident we'd go on & cause bigger issues
Then their own player caused their downfall, not the ref
A) If he hadnt have dived in earlier in the half & rightly got booked no one would have said anything about his booking for dissent, remember as did Greenwood, who got booked for dissent
And
B) Boro were super professional from kick off & in the 2nd half showed how to beat a team with an extra man, we thoroughly deserved the victory, even with 11 players we would have been to good for Sunderland
But the big club mentality, big clubs dont have more stewards in the ground than fans when losing & with over 20 minutes to go & not for the 1st time at the SOS for the fickle lot up the A19
Spot on comments but having worked up there for 10 years I reckon its more complicated for them
Sunderland fans really are a fickle lot who, forsome unknown reason, think that they are head & shoulders more successful club over us
Living in the shadow of NUFC in the 'big city' has given them a desperate need to show they are not inferior beings compared to them. They have been starved of success for so long that they go bonkers overboard at the slightest hint of something good.
Its the NUFC thing being the centre of attention that makes them dismiss us as rivals
They have this secret fear (based on history) that whatever success they get it will always turn into shit and they will just run away from it when it does (invariably since 1973)
They actually dont really mind us.....
Still bouncing today, watched the highlights last night at work, even without the sending off we'd have comfortably beaten them, my opinion mind, we just quietened them all over the putch that to the point with the odd h'way the lads from the home lot & the supetstar Clarke, just brushing his hair back more then brushing past our defenders
Our biggest win should have been 6
Been there a few times, with us winning a couple of those games, back in 77 me & my younger brotber went on beggs bus, once inside bother all over our end, we were dropped off at seaburn & had to walk a good distance, only to see us get thumped 4-0 & running the gauntlet in the roker end
A couple of decent older mackems actually asked if we were brothers & looked after us during the 2nd half chaos, we were truly grateful back then I tell ya
Outside the ground & the long walk back our Kev had to pretend he was scratching his kneck & with his scarf around his wrist somehow I covered his Boro eagle, I kept walking right behind him making sure the eagle wasnt visible 😔

Mind you when Jones just waltz past Clarke he goes to ground so easy, think he went down that quick hoping the ref would award him a free kick 🤔😂😂😂
